Even though the rule received majority approval in the Senate, Republicans had to show just how out of touch they are, filibustering it. 

Call me crazy, but I had this idea in my head that politicians were supposed to represent the will of the people, not the will of the rich. This clearly demonstrates how self-serving the GOP is. On the other hand, it’s kind of fun to watch them also self-destruct, as it would seem that being so out of touch is going to cost them their jobs.

I haven’t reblogged in awhile, but I have to add to this sentiment. It is very sad that in the 21st century, we still have people, and people of power, that have the mentality of the naivety and bigotry of the 18th century. Perhaps even sadder is that so many people cannot think for themselves and blindly follow these hateful people like sheep; blind, ignorant, hateful sheep.

There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

“Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood,” he said.

Ever read something and hear a “click” in your head? Even though this was fairly obvious, it doesn’t always register. That clicking sound I heard was my brain realizing that keeping people uneducated and ignorant helps keep republicans in office. Which is probably why they keep trying to push idiotic ideas like putting Creationism in schools. It is even more evident to me now that beyond the fact that the U.S. is falling behind the world in education which will ultimately catch up with us, we need to educate people so that they resist the idiotic and hate filled lies republicans are spewing every day. Getting people educated will help them to learn to think for themselves, to not blindly accept political rhetoric, and to become immune to the hate-filled lies the republican party spews.
